The Bartlett-Upjohn House was built in 1886 by newspaper publisher Edgar Bartlett, this spectacular Eastlake Queen Anne home was purchased in 1907 by Dr. James T. Upjohn, a Michigan state Senator and the youngest of the four brothers who founded the Upjohn Company (now part of Pfizer). This spectacular example of Eastlake Queen Anne Architecture is a true historic gem. It is one of the most photographed B&Bs in the Midwest and for several years was featured on the cover of the Michigan Lake to Lake B&B Association Directory. It is a landmark building in the Stuart Neighborhood/ Henderson Park Historic District which contains over 350 buildings ranging from Queen Anne to Renaissance style architecture and includes Italianate, Gothic, Greek, and Colonial influences.

The 5,300'+ Bartlett-Upjohn House offers 7 lovely guest rooms (all with private baths, phones and remote control color cable TV), three elegant parlors, and a dramatic oak main staircase, and bright and cheery breakfast room overlooking McDuffee Gardens. The lower level innkeepers' quarters has three bedrooms, two full baths, ample storage and a laundry room. The house contains 6 fireplaces, gas heat and central air-conditioning. It offers a commercially approved state-of-the-art kitchen for in-house catering for business & social groups, weddings & receptions.

The Carriage House offers two guestrooms (with amenities similar to the other two buildings) plus a second floor one bedroom apartment for weekly stays. This building overlooks McDuffee Gardens which has footpaths through a ¾ acre parcel of flower beds, a gazebo, pergola, fountain and a lily pond. All 10 guestrooms have a kitchenette, wet bar, microwave and coffee maker.

This historic Kalamazoo location draws visitors to Kalamazoo's four colleges. The Stuart Avenue is across the street from the prestigious Kalamazoo College and less than a mile from the 20,000+ students at Western Michigan University. At the crossroads of Southwest Michigan, the Inn also hosts guests from The Pfizer Company, banks, courts, hospitals, and as well as tourists.
