The
BARTLETT-UPJOHN HOUSE and the adjoining CARRIAGE HOUSE and MCDUFFEE GARDENS
comprise the Stuart Avenue Inn in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Bartlett-Upjohn House was built in 1886 by newspaper publisher Edgar
Bartlett, this spectacular Eastlake Queen Anne home was purchased in 1907 by Dr.
James T. Upjohn, a Michigan state Senator and the youngest of the four brothers
who founded the Upjohn Company (now part of Pfizer). This spectacular example of
Eastlake Queen Anne Architecture is a true historic gem. It is one of the most
photographed B&Bs in the Midwest and for several years was featured on the cover
of the Michigan Lake to Lake B&B Association Directory. It is a landmark
building in the Stuart Neighborhood/ Henderson Park Historic District which
contains over 350 buildings ranging from Queen Anne to Renaissance style
architecture and includes Italianate, Gothic, Greek, and Colonial influences.
The
5,300'+ Bartlett-Upjohn House offers 7 lovely guest rooms (all with private

building overlooks McDuffee Gardens which has footpaths through a ¾ acre parcel
